Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Strategic Sourcing & Purchasing Manager to build and lead the purchasing function for a growing consumer products company with multiple brands and manufacturing operations.

This position will initially focus on strategic sourcing, supplier development, contract negotiation, spend analysis, vendor consolidation, and cost reduction initiatives across the organization. As the purchasing organization grows, this individual will develop purchasing processes, implement best practices, establish key performance metrics, and build a team of buyers who will report directly to them. Primary Responsibilities

Strategic Sourcing

• Identify, evaluate, and qualify new domestic and international suppliers.
• Develop competitive sourcing strategies for raw materials, packaging, finished goods, indirect spend, and services.
• Lead RFQs, RFPs, and supplier negotiations.
• Negotiate pricing, payment terms, contracts, rebates, and service agreements.
• Reduce overall procurement costs while maintaining or improving quality and service.

Purchasing Operations

• Analyze company-wide purchasing spend to identify consolidation opportunities.
• Standardize vendors across business units whenever practical.
• Improve supplier performance through scorecards and regular business reviews.
• Manage supplier relationships and resolve supply issues.
• Support inventory optimization and purchasing planning.
  

Process Development

• Build purchasing policies, procedures, and internal controls.
• Develop standard operating procedures for purchasing activities.
• Create reporting and KPI dashboards measuring savings, supplier performance, purchasing cycle times, and contract compliance.
• Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, Product Development, and Sales.

Department Leadership

• Design the future purchasing organization.
• Recruit, train, and manage buyers as the department expands.
• Establish purchasing workflows and approval processes.
• Drive continuous improvement throughout the procurement function.
  

Qualifications

Required

• 7+ years of purchasing, procurement, or strategic sourcing experience.
• Demonstrated success negotiating supplier contracts and reducing costs.
• Experience sourcing new vendors and qualifying suppliers.
• Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
• Experience managing multiple product categories simultaneously.
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Experience working with ERP systems.

Preferred

• Consumer packaged goods (CPG), manufacturing, food, beauty, household products, or related industry experience.
• Experience with packaging, raw materials, ingredients, contract manufacturing, or finished goods sourcing.
• Experience implementing purchasing processes or building a procurement organization.
• Leadership experience or demonstrated ability to manage a purchasing team.

Success Measures:

Within the first 12 months, this individual will be expected to:

• Deliver measurable cost savings across key spend categories.
• Consolidate suppliers where appropriate.
• Improve supplier quality and delivery performance.
• Establish standardized purchasing processes.
• Develop purchasing KPIs and reporting.
• Create the foundation for a scalable purchasing department.
• Recruit and lead additional purchasing personnel as business needs grow.

Location

• Preferred: Los Angeles area (hybrid or on-site)
• Remote candidates with significant strategic sourcing experience will also be considered.
